Problem: Loss of flame signal causing the burner to shut down

Potential Causes you have ruled out:

      • You replaced the flame rod or UV scanner
      • The ignition transformer is OK
      • Air flow switches are OK
      • Rotational speed switches are OK
      • Gas pressure switches are OK
      • Gas valves are OK
      • Motors and MCP’s/contactors are OK
      • Motors and MCP’s/contactors are OK

      Possible Cause of Flame Out's

After 4-5 years, the combustion air blower may have sucked in enough dust to clog the burner ports

If your burner looks like this on the outside:

You can be sure it looks like this on the inside:

These clogged ports don’t allow the air and gas to mix correctly to promote combustion. There is no flame for the flame sensor to detect so the burner shuts down. In addition, unburned gas can flow into the air stream as carbon monoxide that is not good for health and wastes money.

If you are not 100% confident in your technical abilities to perform the following, call Horizon at 262-408-5583 to schedule a service call.

      Description of Oven burner cleaning:

      • Measure the flame signal and look for an erratic signal where the voltage reading oscillates rapidly between 0 and 5 VDC
      • Turn power and gas off
      • Mark the position of the air shutter and remove the combustion blower
      • Use a steel brush to scrape the inside as good as you can reach
      • Access the firing side of the burner and use a steel brush on the gas manifold and air wings
      • Then use an air hose with a blow tip to clear the ports
      • Insert the hose from a shop vac to remove loosened dust inside and outside
      • Reinstall the combustion blower
      • Turn on power and gas
      • Check the position of the air shutter and check rotation of the blower
      • Turn the burner on and check for a stable flame signal
      • Check for proper air/gas ratio. Horizon includes the gauges on systems we build.
      • If the signal is not stable, call Horizon to arrange for service
      • Horizon can provide a burner air inlet filter if plant conditions allow the burner to plug up too often
